Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), the joint venture between the Adani group and Mumbai’s Slum Rehabilitation Authority, has joined hands with architect Hafeez Contractor, design firm Sasaki and consultancy firm Buro Happold for the ambitious Dharavi project.

DRPPL said in a statement that it has onboarded world-renowned city and infrastructure planning experts as it embarks on the redevelopment of Asia’s largest slum. Apart from partnering with the trio, it has also roped in experts from Singapore.

According to DRPPL, all of them will work towards building a world-class city for the residents of Dharavi.

It added that the on boarding of Hafeez Contractor, known for his revolutionary social housing and Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects in Mumbai, reflects on the joint venture’s strong commitment to social responsibility and innovative design solutions.

Contractor was part of the architect’s team for The 42 project in Calcutta.

Further, DRPPL has brought together Sasaki, an inter-disciplinary design firm from the US, and Buro Happold, an international consultancy firm from the UK, both of which are well known in the field of urban planning and infrastructure engineering.

Sasaki has a 70-year heritage and it specialises in creating sustainable, integrated live-work-play environments on a global scale, while Buro Happold is known for its creative and value-driven infrastructure solutions that blend with the environmental and social fabric of cities.

“The Adani group envisions an analogous renaissance for Dharavi: the creation of private homes with independent toilets, airy kitchens and rooms for family living and resting; emergence of bustling shops and thriving businesses; generation of vocational job opportunities; and upskilling of the local community,” the statement said.
