“I am a Taiwanese citizen,” says Morris Chang, the man whose nationality triggered a row over the Adani group’s alleged links with Chinese entities.

Chang, who is a director in PMC Projects (India) that constructs ports, terminals, rail lines, power lines and other infrastructure assets for the Adani group, was called a Chinese national because of his passport, linking the conglomerate to China.

“I am a Taiwanese citizen. My passport shows I am a citizen of the Republic of China, which is how Taiwan is officially known. It is different from China, which is officially known as the People’s Republic of China,” he said in an email response to a questionnaire.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday sought a comprehensive affidavit from the Centre on the pleas related to a coal block allocation in Chhattisgarh to the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam and mining operations by Adani Enterprise. “We need a statement on what has happened. We require a statement from the Union of India,” a bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said.
