Heart attack among youth has become a matter of concern in India. Of late, there have been multiple cases where people under 40 have perished due to heart attacks. People are anxious and curious to know, how to fend off heart attacks, To address this issue, The Telegraph Online recently spoke to eminent cardiologist, Dr. Supratip Kundu who is currently serving as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at HP Ghosh Hospital, located in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
Dr. Kundu acknowledged the fact that heart disease and diabetes are two of the biggest medical threats faced by Indians. He attributed this to lifestyle changes, health negligence, obesity, anxiety, stress, and increased environmental pollution. He therefore advised on how to eschew the risk of heart disease.
Dr Kundu said, “Regularly maintaining a healthy lifestyle helps. This includes a good balanced diet, avoiding fast food as much as possible, avoiding refined sugar in the form of cakes and pastries, walking regularly for 30-40 min, maintaining a steady body weight, and reducing work-related stress.”
He also shared his experience of how patients with even the most uncommon symptoms like jaw pain have been found to have suffered a heart attack. For such cases, he stressed the importance of getting treatment in time.
