Complications during pregnancy remain a significant threat to women's lives in our country, despite advancements in medical science. Even with proper prenatal care, women may still encounter complications during delivery, which can be life-threatening for both the mother and the baby. However, the increasing popularity of caesarean deliveries, largely due to pain concerns, has led to a decline in normal delivery rates.
As time progresses, our understanding and approaches to treatment have evolved. Advanced medical methods can now minimise pain by 60% in normal deliveries. In an interview with Anandabazar Online, Dr. Arundhati Chakrabarty, Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at HP Ghosh Hospital, states, "Naturally, a delivery that occurs through the vagina is what we term normal delivery. However, two concerns arise among mothers regarding normal delivery. Firstly, is the pain associated with a normal delivery bearable? Secondly, is this method safe for the child?
Regarding the first question, Dr. Chakrabarty responds, "Although the duration of pain in normal delivery is approximately 10–12 hours, the last 5–6 hours of childbirth can become almost unbearable. However, with some specialised methods, it is now possible to significantly reduce the intensity of that pain."

Is the technique of normal delivery safe for the child?
According to Dr. Arundhati Chakrabarty, "normal delivery can be performed in any hospital that offers 24-hour emergency caesarean section facilities. Choosing a hospital with skilled gynaecologists, anaesthetists, and a nursing team is also crucial. Ensure that you will be under constant medical supervision, so that if any complications arise during normal delivery, the doctors can promptly decide to perform a caesarean section if necessary."
