RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav attended the last day of the winter session at the Assembly on Friday, but kept away from his younger brother, Tejashi Prasad Yadav.

Before Tejashwi reached, Tej Pratap had left the legislature premises.

Tej Pratap, who has gone against the wishes of his family by pressing for divorce with his wife of six months, Aishwarya Rai, reached the Assembly at 10.45am. He sported a dhoti, kurta, waist coast, a kanthi necklace, a Vaishnav tika on his forehead and black sandals on his feet, but no smile on his face.

Tej Pratap had left Patna on November 2 after filing the divorce petition in the civil court, creating ripples in the Lalu family. He returned to Patna on Wednesday night to appear before the court on Thursday. His attending the Assembly on Friday, the only day he did so in the winter session, surprised most people. When he reached the Assembly, many members kept staring at him but no one dared to speak to him.

Without speaking to anyone, he directly went to the lobby where Opposition leaders sit, and plonked himself on the sofa. There were few MLAs of the RJD and the Congress around, but none of them spoke to him and neither did he make any attempt at conversation.

He started reading the newspapers kept on the table; most papers carried the news of his divorce petition hearing.

A staff of the Assembly asked him if wants to have tea. Tej Pratap said no. At 10.55am, the Assembly bell rang signalling that House proceedings would start in five minutes.

Tej Pratap left the lobby, went to the washroom and then went inside the Assembly hall.

He sat in the first row, next to the seat of leader of Opposition Tejashwi who was not present.

Due to the furore in the Assembly by the Opposition, within five minutes Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary adjourned the House till 2pm.

Tej Pratap came out of the Assembly hall, and asked a staff member to make the announcement to bring his car.

Most RJD MLAs maintained distance from him, except Karakat MLA Sanjay Kumar Singh, who spoke to him from close quarters and also whispered in his ear.

Before leaving the Assembly premises, Tej Pratap said that there is chaos in the state and RJD MLAs are raising the issue in the Assembly. Asked when he would return home, he kept mum. He is not staying at 10 Circular Road. He is staying in a hotel or at his friend’s house in Patna.

At 11.10am, Tejashwi reached the Assembly. By then, Tej Pratap had left the building.
