Research pride
Shivani Narayan, a second-year student of Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) presented a paper on "Human Development in Bihar and Impact of liquor Prohibition Policy: An analysis" at IIT-Kharagpur during a national conference on "Management Doctoral Colloquium & VGSOM Research Scholar's Day". Participants from IIT-Kanpur, IIM-Banglore, IIM-Lucknow, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Khragpur, Hyderabad University and CIMP among others were selected to take part in the conference. Of 150 (approx) research papers, around 85 were short-listed for presentation.
Shivani was the only postgraduate student (pursuing) from any business school in India whose research paper was short-listed for presentation in this conference. She was also the youngest participant. Shivani worked on the topic "Human Development in Bihar and Impact of liquor Prohibition Policy: An analysis". CIMP faculty members encouraged and guided Shivani to work on the topic.
According to the paper written by Shivani: "The growth rate of Bihar has been tremendous and surely one of the highest in the past few years when compared to other states. However, the investments made for human development is not sufficient."
Shivani said: "I received a rich platform to present my work in front of renowned researchers at this conference. The session chair and other researchers appreciated my presentation. They also appreciated me for my interest towards research at this initial stage of my career. It wouldn't have been possible without the support of the CIMP director and faculty members."
Tech competition
Eleven teams had to design a system comprising various sub-systems at the event Contraption 1.0, which was conducted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) of NIT-Patna's students' section.
Each subsystem had its own function and triggered the other, finally hitting a ball. The complexity of the sub-systems and the creativity in designing the steps together helped decide the winners. Final-year students of mechanical engineering branch of the institute judged the event.
The event was organised in the students' activity centre building. Team GARA emerged as the winner, while Team Initiators and Team Tangled Mechie were adjudged as the first and the second runners-up respectively. Winners bagged cash prizes and certificates. The event was organised under the guidance of Dr Prakash Chandra, students' section adviser of ASME NIT-Patna.
