A few years ago, Lamborghini surprised everyone when it announced the Urus SUV. More than how it would go, about which there was a fairly good idea, everyone wondered how the supercar maker would transpose its design language for low-slung vehicles onto its SUV. Now we know that it did that very successfully going by the way it is selling.

Now, the fighting bull has given us another surprise by putting its name on a motorcycle. The Ducati Diavel 1260 Lamborghini is the first co-branding effort on the part of both the companies. It also marks the first time that the Lamborghini’s first hybrid supercar, the Sian FKP 37, is seen in motion in a video dicing with the Diavel. The motorcycle will have a limited production run of 630 units in a nod to the carmaker’s inception year 1963. The Sian will have 63 coupes and 19 roadsters.

The Sian is seen to serve as the template for the next-generation Aventador that is expected in 2021. It uses the current Aventador SVJ’s naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine which makes a higher 774bhp in the Sian. Coupled with it is a 34bhp electric motor. Together they take the peak power to 808bhp, the most any production Lamborghini has ever had. In fact, Lamborghini has said that it will continue with its V12 engines even though other supercar makers are moving to fewer cylinders and smaller engines. The Sian is just the beginning for the V12 pairing with electrics. The additional power would lead to additional acceleration (sub-three-second 0-60mph) and a top speed of over 200mph. The Sian roadster, unveiled this year, is pretty much the same vehicle with just the roof off.

As for the bike, Lamborghini says: “Based on the Diavel 1260 S, the concept of the Diavel Lamborghini transfers the core concepts of the Sian FKP 37 to the motorcycle world, redesigning the components that most characterise the Diavel. The new, lightweight forged wheels explicitly recall those of the car, as do the air intakes and radiator covers made of carbon fibre that suggests superimposed floating elements on the main structure of the bike.... The typical Ducati red is referenced by the colouring of the Brembo brake calipers.”
