ISC syllabus tweak for entrance exams

The ICSE council has revised the syllabus of some of the subjects in Classes XI and XII, including the sciences.

The council said the syllabus had been "reviewed and revised" to help students appearing for engineering and medical entrance exams.

"The syllabus has been revised according to the requirements of the National Testing Agency (for engineering and medical entrance exams). The syllabus has been reviewed and revised so children do not lose out," said Sangeeta Bhatia, deputy secretary of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).

The National Testing Agency conducts the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) to screen students for admission to the undergraduate engineering and medical courses, respectively.

Airport call

A man from Barasat allegedly called the manager of the Calcutta airport on Wednesday evening and said a major accident would take place. Airport officials alerted the airport police station and gave them the number from where the call came. Senior officers of the Bidhannagar commissionerate tracked down the last known cellphone tower location to Barasat. A police team was sent to the area and the alleged caller was brought in for questioning. The officers realised during questioning that the man was speaking incoherently, said an officer. He was being questioned till late on Wednesday.

Traffic disruption

Traffic was disrupted on Amherst Street on Wednesday afternoon after BJP supporters blocked the road to protest the breaking of a CCTV camera at the residence of the BJP s Kolkata North district president Tamoghna Ghosh by unidentified persons. The protesters blamed the Trinamul Congress for the damage. In the evening, police said one person had been arrested. The accused reportedly admitted that he had smashed the CCTV camera before stealing a manhole lid.
