A rally led by junior doctors in Kolkata has started to demand reforms in Bengal’s healthcare system
The march began at 3:45pm from the West Bengal Medical Council and will head towards Swasthya Bhavan in Salt Lake.
The rally is organised by the West Bengal Junior Doctors Federation (WBJDF).
Protesters include healthcare workers, civic organisations, and concerned citizens.
The doctors are demanding accountability in the handling of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case.
They allege corruption and malpractice in the state’s medical education system remain unresolved.
The doctors say the CBI probe into the RG Kar case has stalled despite arrests earlier.
They are also protesting the reinstatement of two “tainted” doctors in the Medical Council.
Protesters want answers from the health minister, Mamata Banerjee, regarding these issues.
The rally is at present ongoing, with participants protesting for systemic changes in healthcare governance.
