The West Bengal Coucil of Higher Secondary Education has simplified the process of evaluating the students appearing in the board examinations. The changes have been introduced from the 2024-25 academic year.

Apart from Physical Education, Music and Visual Arts, all other subjects having physical education has been in divided into two parts. There will be 70 marks for the theory papers and 30 marks for th practical papers. The theory paper of 70 marks has further been divided in two parts of 35 marks each.

Thus, in the first semester, students will have to answer a theory paper of 35 marks, while in the second semester they will have to another another 35 marks and the practical paper. For those subjects having only theory papers, the theory paper will be of 80 marks and 20 marks for project work. Out of the 80 marks paper, students will have to answer 40 marks question in the first and the rest 40 marks in the second semester.

As per the new rules, students will have to secure the pass mark in theory and practical papers of class 11 to appear in the first semester of class 12 i.e. 21 marks. Similarly, students will have to secure 24 marks out of 80 for subjects having only theory papers.

This apart, the time period of the exam has also been changed by the council. For the two semesters of class 11 and the first semester of class 12, candidates will be given one and half hours to answer their papers. For the fourth and final semester, students will be given two hours. However, no time has been alloted for reading the question paper.

The teaching-learning will also be undergoing drastic change. 200 hours have been alloted for every year (All subjects included). Out of this, 100 hours have been alloted for the first semester and 80 hours for the second semester. The remaining 20 hours has been alloted for remedial classes, tutorial classes and home assignments.
