Having scored a total of 691 out of 700, both Subham Paul and Rifat Hassan Sarkar have secured the 2nd rank, becoming WBBSE Madhyamik Toppers in 2023. For the boys from Purba Bardhaman and Malda, respectively, their marks aren’t the only similarity. When Edugraph spoke to the two of them, it emerged that they both aspired to enter the medical profession and do good for people. We bring you snippets from the conversations.

Subham says he did not specifically follow a timetable, though his commitment meant that he put in the hours he needed do. The Purba Burdwan boy also enjoys reading, listening to music and playing cricket in his free time and to unwind.

For his exceptional performance, he credits his parents for their unstinting support. He adds that his mother is a high school teacher, who has inspired and helped him with his studies as well. His future aspiration is to complete his MBBS and become a doctor.

Rifat Hassan Sarkar from Ramkrishna Mission Vivekananda Vidyamandir, Malda

Rifat tells us, he had expected to be within the first 10 rank holders. However, when he first heard he had ranked 2nd, he was quite pleasantly shocked.

Speaking about his study schedule leading up to the Madhyamik exams, he says he used to study between 6 to 7 hours on average every day, even staying up late studying at times.

He credits his father with inspiring him and supporting him. He also thanks his mother, teachers and tutors. He aspires to be a surgeon when he grows up.
