On this day, the following announcement appeared on the front page of Bengal Hurkaru, one of the earliest newspapers published in India.

It said: “INDIGO, FOR SALE, BY AUCTION. TO BE SOLD BY PUBLIC AUCTION, By Williams and Hohler, AT THEIR AUCTION-ROOM, On FRIDAY, the 28th Instant, On account of the Underwriters and others Concerned, ONE HUNDRED AND TWELVE CHESTS OF INDIGO: CONTAINING ABOUT Six hundred Maunds taken out of the Sloop CHARLES, below Fultah, where she standed on her passage down to the H.C.S. United Kingdom. The whole of the INDIGO will be exposed for inspection, three days previous to the Sale, at the Auction-room”.
