Henry James Chippendall, a British civil servant, arrived in India on this day and went on to occupy several posts in Calcutta and other places.

Henry James Chippendall, a British civil servant, arrived in India on this day and went on to occupy several posts in Calcutta and other places.

In 1808, he was officiating assistant to collector of government customs in Calcutta. In 1811, he was officiating commercial resident in Malda. In 1820, he was officiating collector of government customs and town duties in Calcutta. The same year he became magistrate for the city of Calcutta.

In 1822, he was collector of inland customs and town duties in Calcutta. He later occupied several posts in other parts of India.
