Under the leadership of its Chairperson Mamata Banerjee, the All India Trinamul Congress (AITC) on Sunday announced its candidates for the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly by-elections, reaffirming its commitment to inclusivity and representation.

Through the move, the party emphasised its commitment to promoting diversity by offering tickets to candidates from various castes, communities, religions, and genders.

The party has fielded Sangita Roy from Sitai, Jay Prakash Toppo from Madarihat, Falguni Singhababu from Taldangra, Sujoy Hazra from Medinipur, Sk. Rabiul Islam from Haroa and Sanat Dey from Naihati.

"This strategic move not only underscores AITC’s focus on inclusivity but also highlights its efforts to provide opportunities for historically underrepresented groups in politics. By selecting candidates from such diverse backgrounds, the party seeks to further strengthen its message of secularism, equality, and empowerment, which has been a central theme in its governance and political campaigns," said a source close to Trinamul.

Bypolls are set to take place in six constituencies of West Bengal—Sitai (SC), Madarihat (ST), Naihati, Haroa, Medinipur, and Taldangra—on November 13, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23.

The bypolls were necessitated due to resignations of sitting MLAs of the six segments following their victory in this year's Lok Sabha elections.

The TMC won five of these seats in the 2021 assembly polls, except for Madarihat, which was held by the BJP.
