BJP leader Mukul Roy yet again paid a visit to Bidhannagar mayor and Rajarhat-New Town MLA Sabyasachi Dutta on Thursday, saying he was helping the Trinamul dissident strategise ahead of the no-confidence motion against him in the civic body.

Former Trinamul No. 2 Roy, whose meetings with Dutta are among the reasons that have prompted the Bengal ruling party to act against the Bidhannagar mayor, said their relationship was beyond politics and there was nothing wrong in such visits.

“There is a no-confidence motion against him on July 18. That’s what we talked about. How that situation has to be mitigated, the strategy, that is what we discussed,” Roy said outside Dutta’s Salt Lake home.

Asked if the possibility of Dutta’s defection to the BJP featured in the discussions, Roy said: “No, that did not happen.”

Dutta later skipped chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s meeting with Trinamul MLAs at the party headquarters.

Senior Trinamul leader Firhad Hakim claimed that Roy had been overcome by a sense of guilt, which was prompting him to try and bring down those close to him.
