Park Street traffic restrictions for Christmas: Your guide to festive celebrations

Calcutta is all lit up and festive ahead of Christmas. But before you head to the heart of the celebrations or if you are still looking for a destination, here’s what you need to know

Vehicles will not be allowed on Park Street “as and when required” on Christmas (Wednesday), police have said in a traffic advisory. On Christmas Eve (Tuesday), several curbs will be in place and two-way traffic will not be allowed on Park Street before 3am on Wednesday, instead of the usual 10pm, the advisory says.

Goods vehicles

The movement of goods vehicles will be restricted from the following intersections from 4pm on Christmas Eve to 4am on December 25 and from 4pm on Christmas till police deem fit on December 26.

No parking

Parking will not be allowed on Park Street (from JL Nehru Road to Wood Street), Middleton Street, Short Street, Wood Street (from Short Street to Park Street), Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Camac Street (from Middleton Street to Short Street), Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road (from Royd Street to Park Street) and Elliot Road.

Weather

The sky is likely to be partly cloudy on Tuesday and Wednesday. “Rain is not ruled out in Calcutta but the chances are little. The neighbouring district of South 24-Parganas may get isolated showers,” said a Met official.

A Western Disturbance, now over Pakistan, is expected to move eastwards over the next two days. It might bring some clouds to Calcutta, the official said. The nights will be warmer than usual. The minimum temperature will be around 16 degrees.

Metro will operate 90 trains, instead of the usual 106, on Christmas.

In all the remaining sections, normal services will be available, the carrier said.
