Calcutta High Court on Tuesday dropped BJP leader Mukul Roy’s name from its proceedings dealing with the murder of Trinamul Congress MLA Satyajit Biswas as the CID no longer considered him as an accused in the case.

A division bench headed by Justice Joymalya Bagchi also lifted the restriction on Roy’s entry to Nadia district.

The Krishnaganj MLA was murdered on February 9 and an FIR was lodged six days later naming Roy and four other persons.

While granting anticipatory bail to Roy in February, the high court had directed him not to enter the Nadia district till the further order.

On Tuesday, advocate Subhasish Roy who appeared for the BJP leader informed the court that the CID had recently filed its charge-sheet in the Satyajit Biswas murder case, but his client’s name didn’t feature on the list of accused.

The lawyer prayed for dropping the name of Roy from the ongoing proceedings in the case before the court and vacate the interim order restraining his client from entering Nadia.

The court granted both the prayers.
