Police in Cooch Behar recovered two bodies from a house in Baishyapara, a locality on the outskirts of the town, on Monday.
While one of the bodies was found in a wardrobe, the other was recovered from the septic tank. Police suspect that both of them have been murdered. They are in search of a youth of the family who is suspected to have absconded from the village.
Sources said some residents of Baishyapara spotted a letter on the verandah of the house of Bijay Baishya.
“It was written in the letter that his son Pranab is taking him outside for treatment. But soon, we spotted some blood stains on the verandah,” said Bhaskar Baishya,a villager.
Senior police officers, including Dyutiman Bhattacharya, the district police chief, reached there. As police searched the house, they found the body of 65-year-old Bijay in a wardrobe. The body was wrapped in a blanket, sources said.
Policemen continued the search and in due course, found another body of a 45-year-old man from the septic tank. This body was wrapped in plastic.
During the investigation, the police came to know that Bijay used to stay with his wife and son Pranab. Also, a sister of the victim and her son would stay with them.
Around three months back, Bijay’s sister died while his wife (Pranab’s mother) expired ahead of the Durga Puja this year.
“Since then, Bijay has been staying with his son and Gopal Roy, his sister’s son. Around one month back, Gopal went missing. We suspect that the second body found in the septic tank is Gopal’s and waiting for post-mortem reports,” said apolice officer.
The police have also learned that Pranab, who is around 30 years old, used to torture his father.
“We suspect that he murdered both of them and had hidden the bodies to conceal the crime. Later, he fled. We are searching for him,” the officer added.
