Afghanistan national nabbed by BSF personnel near India-Bangladesh border in Cooch Behar

An Afghanistan national, Dano Khan, 58, was caught at an unfenced patch of the Dhagram Angrapota Enclaves in Cooch Behar along the India-Bangladesh border late on Saturday evening.

Sources said that BSF personnel of the sixth battalion under the Jalpaiguri sector of the North Bengal Frontier arrested Khan, a resident of Sarouja, Paktika in Afghanistan around 7.20pm, following a tip-off.

“During the search, an Omani resident card bearing number 133189949 along with an Afghanistan passport were recovered from his possession. Two rings and three wristwatches were also found on him,” said a source.

The Afghan national claimed that he was trying to cross over to India to meet his relatives.

His statements are being investigated.

On January 1, 2024, the BSF had also apprehended two Afghan nationals at Changrabandha in Cooch Behar.

Over the past three days, the BSF has also seized items worth Rs 1.74 lakh being smuggled to Bangladesh.
