100 years of RKM monk

A set of commemorative volumes and a pictorial biography of the swami will be released on the occasion

The birth centenary celebrations of Swami Atmasthananda, the 15th president of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission who passed away in June 2017, will be held at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on May 10.

“Swami Smaranananda, the present president of the order, and Swami Suvirananda, the general secretary, will grace the occasion,” Jayanta Roy, the vice-president of the Swami Atmasthananda Birth Centenary Committee, said on Tuesday.

Swami Atmasthananda was born on May 21, 1919, in Sabajpur, near Dhaka, and joined the order in 1941. Since becoming a monk, Swami Atmasthananda served in many places, including Rangoon and Rajkot.

The swami left behind around 67,000 direct disciples. The birth centenary committee wants to request all to join the function, which will be attended by senior monks of the order and nuns of Sri Sarada Math.

A set of commemorative volumes and a pictorial biography of the swami will be released on the occasion.

The commemorative volumes will include reminiscences about Swami Atmasthananda by many, including Asim Dasgupta, former finance minister of Bengal.

Delegate membership cards will be available for Rs 1,500. Free passes will be issued to the first 500 college and university students.
