Anger prevailed among members of Opposition parties and residents, who saw a “return of jungle raj” in Bihar after the murder of doctor’s son in Patna. The Opposition claims there is complete lawlessness in Bihar while residents said Nitish has lost control over crime.

The bone-chilling murder of Satyam Bharti has shaken the people of Bihar. Satyam's body was found today in Danapur behind an engineering college after he was reportedly kidnapped and ransom sought from his family.

After the incident, the people of Patna fear their children are not safe in Bihar.

“This kind of incident proves that organised crime has become active in the state and the common man is no more safe under this regime,” said Nalin Kumar, a businessman residing in West Boring Canal Road. “We trusted Nitishji and given him our vote to provide us safety and securety, but the era of jungle raj seems to have returned in Bihar”.

Cases of kidnapping for ransom were ubiquitous during the 15-year-old RJD rule and there were cases when people from the medical and business fraternity had begun migrating from the state fearing for their family’s life.

Anupam, another Patna resident who has wholesale business in the Patna City area, said: “How can a young boy get killed like this? This is not the job of ordinary criminal, but that of a gang. It means they have become very active having no fear of the police. Nitishji must do something or else the situation can only turn worse in the days to come.”

The Opposition attack was more lethal as it went after the chief minister.

While speaking to The Telegraph, RLD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav said: “There is ‘complete lawlessness’, rather ‘Aatank Raj’ in Bihar. Whosoever says there is ‘Rule of Law’ in Bihar is making a fool of himself.

Totally, it’s the ‘Rule of the Gun’ out here. There is total lack of security and no respect for an individual’s life, dignity and property.”

The former deputy chief minister further said, “chief minister Nitish Kumar is shielding habituatal criminals, the mafia and rapists. Deputy chief minister Sushil Modi is pleading before hardened criminals, with folded hands, to not commit any crime during the next 15 days and gives them a green signal to loot ajnd shoot later. The Bihar chief minister wears lawlessness as a badge of honour. The NDA government, which is nurturing such lawlessness, is completely unfit to govern the state. Nitish himself is to be blamed for every single criminal activity.”

Congress MLC Premchand Mishra alleged that Nitish is busy in other work and giving no importance to the administration and law and order.

He also alleged that he is not performing his duty as home minister. “These days, Nitishji is very busy getting more seats from the BJP and deciding how to sideline Upendra Kushwahaji in the NDA ahead of the Lok Sabha election. So, law and order has taken a backseat, as he is busy in other work and not able to give time to law and order. He better appoint RCP Singh or Prashant Kishor as home minister of Bihar to control crime,” Mishra said.

Another Opposition party leader said: “What is the difference between the Lalu-Rabri era and that of the NDA rule if similar crimes are taking place? Maintaining law and order is the government’s utmost priority. Specially because the NDA came to power in Bihar in 2005 on the law and order issue.”
