Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday went to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly's residence in Behala to greet him on his birthday at around 5 pm.

According to a report by anandabazar.com, the former Indian skipper thanked Mamata, following which she left his house at around 5:48 pm.

This is possibly the first time Mamata has visited Ganguly, though she has been sending flowers and sweets to him every year on his birthday. The cricket icon has also visited the chief minister at the secretariat Nabanna multiple times, owing to their good relationship over the years.

Ganguly and Mamata talked to each other for quite some time, the report says.

Sourav Ganguly celebrated his 49th birthday on Thursday. Like every year, fans had thronged outside his residence to have a look at their 'Dada'. Coming out of his house, Ganguly also interacted with the media and said, "Another year passed by. I am totally fit now, but the pandemic is not over yet. I urge everyone to follow all Covid protocols and be safe."

In February, Ganguly underwent angioplasty and had two stents implanted in coronary arteries following a severe chest discomfort.

On January 2, he had suffered a heart attack at his Behala home and was admitted to Woodlands Hospital, where an angiography revealed blockages in three coronary arteries. He underwent angioplasty to remove the blockage in one of the arteries and had a stent implanted.

Doctors deferred the plan to implant two more stents fearing blood clots if a second angioplasty was done then.
