Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is on a visit to Spain, has announced that La Liga will set up a football academy soon in Bengal. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and Spanish league. The Bengal chief minister assured the Spanish football league's president Javier Tebas that 'land is not a problem.'

In another development, Tempe Grupo Inditex (Zara), a major Spain-based player in the textile industry, is expected to start production in West Bengal before this Christmas, the Bengal chief minister said on Thursday.

The state government would be providing 100 acres of concessional land besides all support to the company, said Banerjee who is now in Spain.

“An exciting development is on the horizon! Tempe Grupo Inditex (Zara), a major player in the textile industry, is expanding its operations. They are partnering with private entities to shift manufacturing to West Bengal, with production set to begin before Christmas 2023,” Banerjee posted on X.
