Resuming on 155/5, Karnataka hoped overnight batters Abhinav Manohar and Shreyas Gopal would help them build a big partnership. But that was not to be as Shreyas (28) departed in the fourth over of the day, caught-behind to Porel.

A short while later, Karnatake was struck a body blow when Manohar’s snick was taken cleanly by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. The big appeal for an inside edge was upheld by the umpire though Manohar expressed his discontent.

Hardik Raj (11) was run out while attempting a cheeky single. Vidyadhar Patil (33) and V. Koushik (11) offered some resistance for the ninth wicket but Jaiswal broke the partnership to hasten their downfall.

In their second innings, Bengal were 127/3 at stumps, enjoying an overall of 207 runs. Sudip Chatterjee (48) and Shuvam Dey (30) impressed while Sudip Kumar Gharami (25 batting) and Shahbaz Ahmed (12 batting) remained unbeaten at the end of the day’s play.

Odisha follow on

Mumbai closed in on a big win as the defending champions reduced the visitors to 126/5 at stumps after imposing follow-on in their Group A encounter in Mumbai.

Odisha were trailing by 191 runs as a defeat by an innings loomed large despite their stoic resistance making Mumbai toil here at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy Ground.

Resuming at 146/5 in reply to Mumbai’s massive 602/4 declared, Odisha made the Mumbai bowlers work hard for nearly 95 overs in the first innings.

Sandeep Pattanaik led the fight for Odisha in the first innings with a fine 187-ball 102 laced with 11 fours and four sixes.
