The much-anticipated first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction is set to take centre stage at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah on Sunday, marking a new chapter for the league in Saudi Arabia.
An expansive roster of 577 cricketers is in contention for the two-day bidding frenzy, but only a carefully curated selection will go under the hammer in the opening phase. Reports indicate that 84 players, divided into 12 initial sets, will be auctioned on Day 1, offering franchises a chance to secure some of the most sought-after talent in global cricket.
The marquee line-up
The event begins with the marquee players—slots one through 12—followed by sets dedicated to key roles: capped batters, fast bowlers, wicketkeepers, all-rounders, and spin bowlers. The first day will also feature uncapped players in these categories, starting with Yash Dhull (player No. 47) and concluding with Manav Suthar (player No. 84).
Archer among the headline acts
A notable late addition, Jofra Archer, enters the fray as player No. 575 in the overall list but will slot into the capped fast bowlers’ category as player No. 34 during the sixth set. His inclusion is expected to draw significant interest given his reputation as one of the world’s premier pacers.
Day 2 and beyond
The auction will pick up on Monday with players from set 13 (beginning with player No. 85) and continue through to player No. 116 before transitioning into the accelerated phase, where bidding intensifies with rapid-fire selections.
