Less than a month before the start of the T20 World Cup, there’s worry over the fitness of Jasprit Bumrahafter the key India pacer was ruled out of Wednesday’s match against South Africa in Thiruvanthapuram with back pain.

“Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first T20I,” a BCCI statement said.

Bumrah had played the last two matches in the T20I series against Australia earlier this month. He finished with figures of 1/23 and 0/50 in the two matches. He missed India’s disastrous Asia Cup campaign owing to a back injury. It is not immediately clear whether it is the same back injury which kept Bumrah out of cricket after the England tour in July.

The fast bowler has been suffering from back spasms for some time now and underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He was declared fit before the T20I home series against Australia.
