She called her college principal Sarat Dutta from Poland, where she is training, at 9.15am on Saturday to know her result.

“I got a video call from Hima from Poland in the morning. She thanked me and everybody in the college for helping her complete her higher secondary examination,” Dutta told The Telegraph.

Hima, 18, who left home in February last year for training (she has since trained in several places), came back in February this year, appeared for the exam and left again on March 9.

A family source said Hima was weak in English but she has scored 63 in the subject. “We feel this is enough,” the family source said.

Hima’s teachers, who have been closely monitoring her studies since she left Dhing, are satisfied with her performance.

“She has got 70 per cent. Surprisingly, the board has not included her geography practical marks in her marksheet. If that is included, her percentage will go up,” Hima’s history professor Biman Hazarika said. He said Hima would take admission in Dhing College for graduation.

“She called me today (from Poland, where she is training) and said she was interested in completing her graduation and someone from her family would soon visit Dhing College to complete admission-related formalities,” he added.

Hima’s friends Nilakshi and Anjana passed in second division with 58 and 56 per cent marks respectively.

Anjana said, “Hima will take Assamese as the major subject in degree course. So will we. She can attend classes whenever she comes to Dhing.”

Nilakshi said, “We feel she should continue her education along with her practice. We can easily share course materials with her over WhatsApp as soon as the classes start.”

Altogether 274 students appeared for the exam from Dhing College this year. Of them, 37 got first division in arts stream and 11 in science stream.
