3 Assam districts gear up for Aadhaar

Phase 1 of Aadhaar enrolment to begin from today

Along with the rest of the state, enrolment of Aadhar, the 12-digit unique identity number based on biometric and demographic data, will be launched here on Saturday.

Deputy commissioner Varnali Deka will launch the programme at the Goalpara municipality office centre at 10am.

Altogether 40 centres, including four to five centres under each block development offices, will collect the information, Deka said at a news conference on Friday.

There will be four centres each under Balijana, Rongjuli, Kuchdhowa and Kharmuja development offices, five under Krishnai, Matia and Lakhipur development offices and six under Jaleswar development office.

The Lakhipur town committee office will be the additional collection centre, said additional deputy commissioner Nibedan Das Patowary.

In the first phase the centres will receive 30 applications each day and the additional applicants will be given tokens for the next day.

The applicants will have to bring proofs of identity, address and birth and in case of minors, relationship proof certificates will be required.

The Dhubri district administration has notified 42 locations as Aadhaar enrolment centres, which comprises eight revenue circles of Dhubri, Gauripur, Golakganj, Agomoni, Bilaipara, Chapar, South Salmara and Athani. The enrolment process will start on October 6.

Dhubri deputy commissioner Ananta Lal Gyani said for smooth execution of the entire exercise, one government employee will verify the process in each centre.

The official shall also be required to bio-metrically sign off at the end of each day. “Verification of the details entered in the enrolment form in comparison to the information available in the documents provided by applicants will also be done,” he added.

Enrolment will begin in Golaghat district on Saturday. Golaghat deputy commissioner Gaurav Bothra will launch the process at the office of the executive engineer, public works department (rural ro-ads), Golaghat, centre at 11am.

The district administration has identified 29 designated offices to set up Aadhaar enrolment centres, a news press release said.

The enrolment will take place in a phased manner.

The district administration has engaged two verifiers and one operator-cum-supervisor in each of the centres.
