Do you know which words made it to Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year?

It’s time to zhuzh up the vocab, it seems

Authentic - that’s Merriam Webster’s Word of the Year. The search for the word received a push, courtesy talks on artificial intelligence, identity, celebrity culture and social media. But that’s not all, there are a few other words that made it to the list too. For example, Rizz, which is a new way to say charm or romantic appeal. Or a word that is in wide usage right now, Deepfake. It’s a phenomenon of which popular celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Rashmika Mandana and now Alia Bhatt are a victim of, Deepfake means misrepresenting someone with the use of technology.

Coronation too made it to the list because of King Charles III’s coronation this year. The words like Dystopian and X (yes, Elon Musk’s Twitter aka X) also charted on the list. And so did EGOT, which means an artist who has won the Emmy, the Grammy, the Oscar, and the Tony. Implode, Doppelgänger, Covenant, Elemental are more that have made their way to Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year, 2023.
