Debaditya’s Puja wardrobe is a fusion of tradition and style
From custom ‘panjabis’ to classic ‘dhotis’ — this musician enjoys celebrating Ashtami with cultural flair

For Kolkata-based musician and restaurateur Debaditya Chaudhury, Durga Puja is more than just a festival — it’s a vibrant celebration of tradition that reflects in his choice of attire. Adhering to the Bengali customs, he curates four distinct outfits for the four days of the puja, but Ashtami holds a special significance for him. “On Ashtami, it’s got to be a panjabi and dhoti for me,” he said, emphasising the cultural importance of this attire. This commitment to traditional wear connects him to his roots and allows him to express his identity through his clothing choices, even during concerts.
One piece of clothing Debaditya particularly treasures is a custom panjabi created by his late friend, renowned fashion designer Sharbari Dutta. “I had asked Sharbaridi to make a panjabi for me, and it was handed over the very year she passed away,” he shared, reflecting on its emotional significance. However, Debaditya often opts for casual attire, like jeans and polo shirts, during Dashami’s visarjan. This blend of contemporary and traditional styles is part of the festive spirit, allowing him to pay homage to the celebrations, said the Lakkhichhara member.
