This 125-year-old love letter will melt your heart
The 54-page vintage journal tells the long-forgotten tale of a sailor’s love
The Instagram handle of State Library of NSW, Australia, has posted a reel on a 125-year-old vintage journal letter, written in 1899, by Norman Standen Tayler to his beloved Catherine Vanston Ferris. Tyler worked in the British shipping company, Devitt & Moore, that transported passengers and goods between London and Sydney. Before leaving for London, he made a promise to Catherine who lived in Waverley, Sydney, that he would write an account of the voyage for her. He created what he called a 54-page handwritten ‘journal letter’. He also illustrated events in the diary and sent her via post. Ten years later they got married! Not a surprise at all! Who wouldn’t fall in love with someone, who takes such a romantic initiative? Want to create something similar for your loved one? Check out the reel!
