Did you know Ruskin Bond is a Sahitya Akademi fellow?
The prolific writer shared a glimpse of his medal on social media
Eminent writer Ruskin Bond was awarded the Sahitya Akademi award in 1992 for his book Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, but did you know that he was also selected for the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2021? Everyone’s favourite children’s books author recently took to social media to share a glimpse of the memento awarded to him by the Akademi. “Thanks to sahityakademi for making me a fellow. This medal is a memento from them” he wrote, captioning the photo. His fans have been pouring congratulatory messages in the caption ever since.
As the Ruskin Bond fans rejoice on his new achievement, here are a few facts about him that you perhaps did not know:
- He is also the recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan
- His first book, The Room on the Roof, was published in 1956
- The first book also made him the recipient of the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize
- Few films that are inspired from his stories are 7 Khoon Maaf and The Blue Umbrella
- Bond has written more than 500 short stories
