Shikhar Dhawan’s retirement sparks a flood of tributes on social media
Check out what Sachin, Yuvraj, Virat and Rohit had to say about the cricketer
As Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, fans worldwide took a moment to reminisce about Gabbar's best moments in India’s blue jersey. Many of his former teammates joined in, sharing their memories as well.
Rohit Sharma, his favourite batting partner, shared several pictures of arguably India’s greatest opening pair on Instagram, along with a heartfelt note: “From sharing rooms to sharing lifetime memories on the field. You always made my job easier from the other end. THE ULTIMATE JATT.”
Even his Delhi teammate and former Indian Captain, Virat Kohli took to X to share a message for Dhawan, saying, “Your passion for the game, your sportsmanship and your trademark smile will be missed, but your legacy lives on. Thank you for the memories, unforgettable performances and always leading with your heart. Wishing you the best in your next innings, off the field Gabbar!”
Even those who spent less time on the pitch with him, like Sachin Tendulkar, shared their thoughts on Instagram. Although the two never got to bat together, they represented India on a few occasions. The Master Blaster wrote: “The cricket field will surely miss your flamboyance.” Another Punjabi southpaw, Yuvraj Singh’s post on Instagram read: “Your fearless knocks, especially in your favourite ICC tournaments and match-winning performances across all formats have made you the real “gabbar” that the oppositions feared!”
While these are just some of the posts from his teammates, many others took to social media to celebrate one of the most selfless servants of Indian cricket. You will be missed on the field, Shikhar, with love from your teammates and fans.
