Food journalist turned YouTuber Kunal Vijaykar was in Kolkata to explore the culinary map of the city for his YouTube channel Khaane Mein Kya Hai. Venturing into the heart of the city’s gastronomy, Kunal stepped into the kitchen of Manzilat Fatima, the descendant of Wajid Ali Shah, credited with introducing biryani to Kolkata. Manzilat, the great-great-granddaughter of Shah, has carved her niche in the city’s culinary culture through her Awadhi cooking at the intimate diner, Manzilat’s. In a captivating 19-minute video, Kunal delves into a delectable spread, unravelling the rich history of Awadhi cuisine in Kolkata and Manzilat couldn’t be happier. She said, “Kunal Vijaykar’s visit was a surprise for me. He came on Panchami, which was a packed day. Fortunately, that day I had everything on the menu — from nihari, chaap, pasanda, Galawati kebab to biryani and paratha. He loved everything I served him.”
