ISRO celebrates India’s maiden National Space Day

The celebration came in the wake of Chandrayaan-3’s success and Vikram Lander’s soft landing

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has had much to celebrate over the past year. In keeping with the significant progress made by India’s space programme, ISRO recognised today, August 23, as India’s maiden National Space Day, livestreaming the ceremony from Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The celebrations came in the wake of Chandrayaan-3’s safe accomplishment, and Vikram Lander’s soft landing on the lunar surface, making India the fourth country to land on the moon, and the first to land near its Southern polar region. This landing was followed by the Pragyan Rover’s successful deployment too. ISRO took the opportunity to share the sheer leaps of growth that our country has made in recent years, encouraging the nation to take a more active interest in our space programme.
