Have you seen this Korean performance of ‘Phule Phule Dhole Dhole’?

Do you remember being in school, and in the lead up to Rabindra Jayanti celebrations, heading to dance or music rehearsals? Inevitably, one of the songs to feature in the line-up — especially when you were a pre-primary or primary school kid — would be Phule Phule Dhole Dhole. My Kolkata just stumbled upon a video on Instagram that will unlock that core memory. Dasom Her, a content creator and author of the book Be You, who often shares content on her love for India and for all things Bangla, recently shared a reel of a Korean band called GRΛNΛDΛ performing the popular Rabindrasangeet, at what seems to be a cultural programme. The mellow rendition with primarily Western classical instruments adds a contemporary flair to the much-loved melody, while keeping all the nostalgia. 

Not only were we overjoyed to see the young Korean performers singing a song that is close to every Bengali’s hearts, but also impressed to see how diverse backgrounds have appreciation for our culture.
