Skyroom’s iconic dishes on the menu at Chapter 2 — for one night

Good Vegetarian Food of Calcutta group is hosting a pop-up — ‘Skyroom Recreated’ on September 13

In the heyday of Calcutta, the city’s entertainment quarter housed a star-among-stars restaurant — Skyroom. Established in 1957, unlike its neighbours on Park Street, Skyroom did not rely on cabaret or drinks to draw in crowds — it became famous purely for its exceptional food. For nearly 40 years, until its closure in 1993, Skyroom remained a beloved culinary destination, fondly remembered by all who dined there.

Now, Good Vegetarian Food of Calcutta, a Facebook community of about 1.5 lakh food lovers, is bringing back the iconic flavours of Skyroom with a special food pop-up — ‘Skyroom Recreated’. Conceptualised by members of the group, the menu will be prepared by a third-generation chef from Skyroom, who is currently working at the retro-themed diner Chapter 2.

Since 2018, the group has curated multiple successful pop-ups featuring diverse cuisines like Parsi, French, Kathiawadi, Nepali, and Sheherwali, with heritage food walks that many have sought to emulate. This time, the community aims to bring back the nostalgia of Skyroom for those who still cherish fond memories of the place.
