Sarmistha Datta Gupta in conversation with Kavita Panjabi about ‘The Jallianwala Bagh Journals’

On April 13, 1919, the British government in India opened fire on unarmed civilians gathered for a peaceful protest at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, leading to a massacre that remains one of the most traumatic moments in India’s history. 

Glenburn Culture Club’s upcoming event, ‘Unforgotten: The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Revisited’, hosted by the Glenburn Penthouse on Russell Street, with My Kolkata as digital partner, turns the spotlight on this tragedy with Sarmistha Dutta Gupta and Kavita Panjabi discussing the former’s book, The Jallianwala Bagh Journals. In this book, Dutta Gupta raises questions about how we monumentalise memory, the lost voices of women, revolutionary idealism, and more. The programme, which commences with Glenburn’s signature high tea at 5.30pm, will also include Ramanjit Kaur and Anjum Katyal reading from poems written in the aftermath of the tragedy.
