In pictures: Chandannagar College Museum opens doors to foreign visitors

The college was run by the government of France but the British forced it close at the height of the Indian freedom struggle

The newly renovated museum at Chandannagar College was opened for foreign visitors on Monday. It highlights the Indian freedom movement and the history, heritage and culture of Chandernagore. It is now the only educational institution in the country with a freedom movement museum

The museum has been set up in a building set up by the French, 200 years ago. The West Bengal Heritage Commission declared the building as a heritage building and the state public works department thoroughly repaired the structure. The Centre will look after the museum that will highlight the history and cultural heritage of the region which is often called mini-Europe as well as various other aspects of indigenous literary and cultural history

The revolutionaries connected with Chandernagore were Rashbehari Bose, Aurobindo Ghose, Motilal Roy, Charu Chandra Roy, Kanailal Dutta, Shreesh Chandra Ghosh, Basanta Kumar Bandyopadhyay, Narendranath Bandyopadhyay, Upendranath Bandyopadhyay, Suneeti Ghosh, Tinkori Mukhopadhyay, Suhasini Ganguly, Makhanlal Ghosal, Jyotish Chandra Ghosh, Heerandra Kumar Chattopadhyay, Deenesh Chandra Majumdar and Kaleecharan Ghosh
