On this day Bihar witnessed the first event of the 1857 Uprising. On 25 July, Indian soldiers from the 7th, 8th and 40th regiments of Bengal Native Infantry stationed at Danapur on the outskirts of Patna rose in solidarity with the uprisings against the British authorities.

Many of them crossed the Son river into Shahabad, where they joined the men under Kunwar Singh, one of the major figures of the uprising.
