Undergraduate aspirants next year will get admitted at Presidency on the basis of their performance at the entrance tests which are tentatively going to be held on May 20 and May 21, said an official of the university.

The admission tests are returning to Presidency University after three years and the undergraduate aspirants have to write tests instead of securing admission on the basis of marks obtained in the board exams. The institution, which has traditionally screened students through admission tests, suspended the practice because of the pandemic.

The postgraduate admission tests which are also going to be revived after three year is likely to be held on May 21.

A Presidency official said the state Joint entrance examination (JEE) board which has been conducting the entrance tests on behalf of Presidencysince 2015, will soon announce what would be the date for writing the tests on a specific undergraduate subject.

“JEE board is expected to come up with an information booklet in January. Specific dates for holding the test on a subject, the eligibility criteria, the schedule of online form submission –everything will be mentioned in the booklet,” the official said.

Sources on the campus said, apart from setting up centres in Kolkata, some centres will be set up in the districts.

The Presidency Alumni Association had written to education minister in May that since students had returned to campus and in-person exams had resumed, the admission tests should be “reinstated” in all departments through the JEE board so the students don't get admitted on the basis of board marks.
