Over 60 Kolkatans arrested for ‘disorderly conduct’ on Holi, liquor seized

More than 60 people were arrested till Friday afternoon across Kolkata for “disorderly conduct”, police said.

“There were a few complaints about forcible splashing of colours. Liquors were also seized from a few places for drinking in public places,” a police officer said.

Lalbazar had drawn up elaborate arrangements for policing throughout the day.

With the Shab-e-Barat festival also scheduled on Friday and Saturday, around 3,000 police personnel were deployed across the city. Around 400 police pickets have been set up.

At the Ultadanga Hudco crossing, Maniktala, Phoolbagan, Ruby Hospital crossing, Tollygunge, Behala Chowrasta, Gariahat and Shyamabazar, police officers were positioned in their vehicles. By afternoon, officers on two-wheelers kept visiting lanes and bylanes with constables in tow to keep an eye on the revellers.
