Das’s brother-in-law is the caretaker of the pump house on Purna Das Road. Das had gone there to meet his brother-in-law.

“We heard a loud crash and found that the roof of the CMC godown had collapsed. There was a man inside. We learned that he had come to meet his brother-in-law who is the caretaker of the godown,” said Shankar Ghosh, who lives in the neighbourhood.

The area where the accident happened falls under Ward 86 of the CMC.

“It was an abandoned CMC pump house. At present, it was being used as a godown for storing things like bleaching power etc. It is unfortunate that the incident happened but the deceased was in no way related to the CMC,” Sourav Bose, councillor of Ward 86 told Metro.
