A man was found sitting still on the footpath of Kali Krishna Tagore Street in north Kolkata with his eyes open early on Wednesday.
Passers-by noticed his immobile position and alerted police, who took him to RG Kar Hospital near Shyambazar, where he was declared brought dead.
The identity of the man, in his 30s, was yet to be established till Wednesday evening. “His body was already stiff when discovered,” said an officer of Posta police station, under whose jurisdiction the man — wearing a black and white striped, round neck T-shirt paired with navy blue shorts — was found. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
“There were no marks of injury on the body,” said the officer.
The police said they were examining closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage to check if the person could be spotted coming to the place he was found by the passers-by.
