Bypass traffic block
Kolkata police on Saturday granted permission for a 60-day blockade of a part of the western flank of EM Bypass, for vehicles towards Ruby, near the Calcutta International School, for the New Garia-Airport Metro construction work. Cops have been running a traffic trial with a diversion on the eastern flank, which carries vehicles towards the Parama flyover from Ruby, for the last fortnight.
On Saturday, senior officers said the diversion will continue for another 60 days until Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) completes the Metro work. In this period, a 76m-long steel girder will be mounted between two pillars near the school, RVNL officials said.
