Danseuse Dona Ganguly has lodged a complaint with Kolkata police alleging that her Facebook account and her Facebook Page have been hacked.

According to the complaint, Dona lost access to her own profile and web page after she shared her account details with a person who apparently promised he would help her account get a “blue tick”, police said. Facebook provides a blue tick to accounts that are verified.

“We have received the complaint and are in process of identifying the IP address of the device from which the password of the Facebook account has been last changed,” said an officer at Lalbazar.

The police said a case has been drawn up at the cyber police station at Lalbazar on Saturday.

Last February, Dona had reported to the police that someone had created a fake account in her name using her family’s photographs.

“Such cyber crimes are very common and need to be reported on time. In a majority of the cases, once an account is hacked, the fraudster either impersonates the account holder to collect money from people on his / her contact list or tries to fish out more details of the contacts so that they too could be targeted later,” said the senior officer.

In this case, cops said they are checking the extent of misuse that had been done with the hacked profile.

No one was arrested till Monday evening, police said.
