CBI files chargesheet against 12 in teacher recruitment case

The document names former officials of the West Bengal School Service Commission

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against 12 persons, including former officials of the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC), in connection with allegedly illegal recruitment of assistant teachers for classes IX and X in government-aided schools in the state.

Former WBSSC adviser S.P. Sinha, former WBSSC secretary Ashok Kumar Saha, former WBSSC chairman Subires Bhattacharyya and the former president of the adhoc committee of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, Kalyanmoy Ganguly, were among those against whom the chargesheet has been filed.

The central agency submitted the chargesheet before the special judge, Alipore court, under IPC sections of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy, and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The others who have been chargesheeted by the central agency include Parna Bose and Samarjit Acharya. Both of them were posted as programme officers of the school service commission, CBI officers said.

The six others have been identified as Rohit Kumar Jha, Prasanna Kumar Roy, Pradip Singh, Jnui Das, Mohammad Azad Ali Mirza and Imam Momin. Of the six, Roy is in judicial custody.

A CBI officer said: “It was found that the accused, including public servants and private persons, entered into a conspiracy with one another in order to extend the undue advantage of appointment of unqualified candidates to the posts of assistant teacher of classes IX and X in secondary and higher secondary schools across West Bengal.”
