Brazil football legend Cafu to visit Kolkata this week

He will take part in Kolkata Police’s charity match and gift a jersey to chief minister

Legendary Brazilian footballer, Marcos Evangelista de Morais, fondly known as Cafu, will visit Kolkata this week to participate in a charity match for Kolkata Police.

The most internationally capped Brazilian player of all times, Cafu, will be in the city for a day or two between November 4 and 7 during his stay in India. During his visit, Cafu will be a part of a chat show and hand over a jersey to the chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, and gift a pair of football boots to the former BCCI chief, Sourav Ganguly.

Presented by Bengal Peerless Housing Development & Company, the charity match will be played between Bengal Peerless All Stars XI & Kolkata Police. “The match will be played this week but we are yet to finalise the date,” said a Kolkata Police officer. Cafu will inaugurate and play the Kolkata Police Friendship Cup match. He is also expected to host a workshop with budding talents. The details of Cafu’s itinerary will be released on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Cafu, in a message through his trip promoter, Satadru Dutta, said, “It is an honour for me to be in Kolkata. We share the same passion and madness for football. I have heard that Bengal has a huge Brazilian fan base. India is a very passionate football nation and I look forward to meeting a whole new generation of fans while continuing to spread the overwhelming love and passion that I have for this great sport.”

Talking about the initiative, Ketan Sengupta, CEO, Bengal Peerless Housing Development Company, said the company is hosting several events to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and "The Friendship Cup is one such event and we are elated to have Cafu among us", he added.
