All the spotlight for Valentine’s Day might have been hogged by couples, but that’s not all that the day’s about! It’s all about the celebration of love — for yourself and people you care about. So, if you’re single this V-Day, fret not. Here are a few ways to make your Valentine’s Day happening…

Have a house party with the buddies

We know this time V-Day is on a Tuesday but when has a weekday come in the way of your gang of closest friends rustling up a quick party! Invite your friends home (you can even have a singles only policy) and have a cracking house party. You can go the potluck route, where each of your friends can either bring drinks or food — make it more fun by getting everyone to dress according to a theme. Play beer bong, sing karaoke, dance and mingle!

Pro tip: Don’t forget to stay hydrated if you have a long night of drinking on Valentine’s Day, no one likes a hangover in the office.

Plan a Galentine’s Day

Who is there for you when you’re feeling low? Who gives you great advice when you’re making silly choices in life? Who knows exactly what you need to hear after a long, hard day at work? Your girl gang, of course! So this Valentine’s Day, celebrate your besties! There is no power in the world as strong and comforting as sisterhood and female friendships. Dress up, pre-game with a few drinks while getting ready together and go out partying or for dinner. Celebrate the strong feminine energy!

Make it special: appreciate your girlfriends with a little token of their favourite goodies — chocolates, make-up, a book, a gift coupon, and more.

Indulge in some self-care

This Valentine’s Day don’t forget about the one person who is there for you no matter what — YOU! It’s important to acknowledge and let yourself feel the love that you deserve. Indulge in your hobbies, interests and have a self-care day. Take yourself out for a coffee and read a book, or pamper yourself with some much-needed spa time. Take yourself shopping or go for a drive, and have a me-day!

Things to remember: Do whatever makes you happy, even if it’s having a lie-in at home. Take the time to get in touch with your inner self.

Celebrate with the fam

Take some time out from busy schedules to celebrate the season of love with your family. Cook a meal for (or with) them, chat and share laughs over dinner, and show your appreciation for them by doing a gift exchange. Spend time with your siblings and cousins, there’s nothing better than reliving childhood memories with people who know you best.

Modern family rules: Don’t talk about your dating life at dinner, we want to have a fun evening, not one that ends up with family trying to set you up.

Treat yourself to a fancy dinner

Pull out your fanciest outfit, strap on your sexiest shoes, wear your favourite lipstick because it’s time for a fancy meal! Why wait for someone to ask you, or to ask someone for a Valentine’s date when you can be your own Valentine? Take yourself out to dinner in a restaurant you’ve been dying to try or have a few drinks at your favourite pub. There’s nothing more empowering than enjoying your own company.

Make it special: Take the time and effort to dress up, it will make you feel good and confident.

Gift yourself a vacation

Don’t wait for anyone to tell you that you deserve a break. Book yourself a nice vacation and go exploring! Plan a short getaway or a holiday you’ve been dying to take and make the best of this time of your life. If you’re looking to relax, plan a staycation. If you’re in the mood to explore, research and plan a short itinerary that’s completely based on your tastes alone. Discover new places, book a massage, take a dip into the pool and eat all the desserts you love. If you don’t do it now, when will you?

Make it happen: Apply for leave at work for the holiday ASAP. Until you get the time off, the holiday will never actualise and get past the planning stage.
