The easy-breezy label Saaksha & Kinni have launched their menswear along with their Resort Wear’ 22 collection — Quad. Complementing the womenswear line of dresses, sari dresses and skirt in chiffons and satin that play around with the rhombus shape and Gujarati and Rajasthani mirror and thread handwork in pinks, greys and greens, the menswear line comprises shirts, trousers and jackets. Saaksha Bhat and Kinnari Kamat take The Telegraph through the range.
Congratulations for a menswear line. Have you been thinking about this for a while?
Honestly, we have thought about menswear ever since we launched womenswear. It is something we always wanted to do.
How is the approach different?
I think the approach is quite similar in the sense that both women and men like to make a statement while remaining comfortable. It’s all about having fun with your outfit without compromising on fit, fabric or fall.
Tell us about your debut line...
Our debut line is a collection of poplin-print shirts styled with matching print trousers, contrast trousers or our acid-washed jeans. We also have oversized unisex coats to tie in both menswear and womenswear together.
Who are the men you want to dress?
We would love to dress the likes of Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal and Hrithik Roshan. Shahid Kapoor has always been a favourite and we were lucky enough to dress him as soon as the collection dropped.
How has men’s fashion evolved for you?
Men’s fashion has become a lot more bold, experimental and is taken more seriously.
What do you think they want?
They want more or less the same things that women do —comfortable, impactful clothing. Garments that do the talking without having to compromise on comfort factor.
With the lines blurring, this is a beautiful place to be in now. What do you want to do with menswear?
We want to make impactful menswear — go bolder and have fun with the prints.
What are menswear classics?
Shirts, trousers and jackets will always remain staple pieces.
The most fashionable man right now would be?
David Beckham will forever be our best-dressed man with his sharp cuts, bold choices and laid-back fabrics. Closer home, Shahid Kapoor always brings his A game.
